Trend Watch: Solo Travel

By Trove Marketing Analyst, Joy Ngo

Coordinating schedules and finding common ground can be a challenging feat for groups of friends and families planning travel. As such, it’s no wonder why solo travel has become an increasingly common trend in recent years. Solo travelers are able to maintain control over their schedules and several other perks of being a party of one.

Destinations and trade partners must consider that as solo travel becomes more popular, visitors’ priorities are shifting. These advantages and tips are at the fore-front of solo travelers’ minds. Destinations and trade partners should also consider incorporating these three factors in their marketing strategies to increase conversions within this niche market, coinciding with the rising trend of solo travel.

1. Free Range

When traveling in a big group, individuals may have to concede their top destinations in favor of something that suits everyone’s budgets, time-constraints, and desires. Remove other people from the equation, and this problem vanishes. After choosing a destination, the itinerary can also be crafted to accommodate just one person’s wishes, rather than a whole group’s.

Solo travelers are also unburdened by group plans and obligations throughout the trip. That means, they can take their sweet time and even rest whenever they please without feeling guilty. Solo travelers can take breaks in the middle of the day or spend 5 hours at the art gallery or hiking trails—The options are endless and they’re all yours!

2. Self-Discovery

Solo travel offers a unique opportunity for self-reflection. As travelers explore unfamiliar places and immerse themselves in different cultures, they gain deeper insights into their own characters—uncovering strengths, weaknesses, and passions. Traveling on one’s own truly becomes a voyage of self-discovery.

3. Meeting New People

When traveling with friends, most usually stick with their own group. New meaningful and authentic connections from different cultures are more likely to be made along the way of solo adventures.
